Renting Your Portugal Property? - How Will You Accept Payment - 05 December, 2011

When you are renting out your Portugal property as holiday accommodation, you will need to think about which method you will use to accept payment from your guests.

When you receive a booking, you should be making your guests pay in advance in order to secure the rental for their requested period of time as this is common practice for accommodation. But when it comes to actually getting the money, what is the best way for guests to pay you for their stay at your Portugal property?

There are several methods of payment available, and although the process of transferring money might seem complicated, once you set up a payment system it should become a lot easier.

You might want to have at least two or three different payment methods set up, so that your guests can choose the way of paying which suits them the best. You want your guests to feel secure and confident in the payment method they choose, so that they don’t have any apprehensions about handing over their hard-earned money for their holiday Portugal property rental. It is also a good idea to send your guests a receipt once they have paid for their stay so that they can keep it for their records. This could be an email receipt or a printed receipt sent in the post.

Here are a few common methods that owners of Portugal property use to transfer payments:

Cheques

If you and your Portugal property guests both live in the same country, perhaps the best way of transferring payment would be to send a cheque through the mail. To do this all you will need to do is send your name and address to the guest. Make sure that you have received the cheque and that it has cleared before finalizing the booking and sending over the keys.

Bank Transfers

Another easy way to transfer the payment for your holiday Portugal property is via a bank transfer. You can give your guests your name, account number, sort code, and all other required information for a transfer. If your guests live in another country there might be extra fees for an international transfer, and it is up to you whether you want to pay these yourself or ask your guests to cover them.

Pay Pal

Another method of transferring over payment for staying at your Portugal property is Paypal. This is an online system which makes safe transfers between bank accounts. It is free to sign up for an account, but PayPal will charge a small fee for each transaction. Your guests don’t even have to sign up for a PayPal account to pay you through this service, because they can use their credit cards online through PayPal. You can also set up your PayPal account so that it will send your guests a receipt once the payment has been made.

If you set up all three of these payment methods, the guests of your Portugal property can choose which one works the best for them. Make sure that you are clear with your payment deadlines and the amount that is to be paid.
